Bangles that fit! Why not check out J Crew Girl's section

I've always love bangles! I love how they clickity-clack while you move your arms. I like solid bracelets, not those elastic ones, as they tend to loose the rigid bangle-y feel with the smooshiness. However I have skinny hand (long fingers, but skinny. Some people liken it to witch fingers haha). Though probably good for playing the piano, I never learned, it is horrible for keeping bangles in place. I have lost way too many bangles at dinners, bars and clubs as they just slip off. Often these bracelets come in one side like those made by Kate Spade. Adorable, but too large. And I totally understand, the producers try to hit the middle size of the population, the peak of the bell curve, so to speak. So I gave up on wearing bangles after I lost my favorite Kate Spade ones.

Until...I browsed J Crew's sale site and saw these adorable kid's plastic bangles, which fit me perfectly! They have a diamter of 2.25 inches, which is a "small" size! Here is a picture:

I know they look kiddy, but I can't get enough of it! Finally bangles that fit! I'm hoping J Crew will make more girl's bangles with a grown up design so I can switch out these jelly-looking ones haha! But for now, I'll wear 'em with pride and the reassurance that I won't lose them in a pinch!

I've also heard good things about Amrita Singh bangles that come in 3 sizes! I've yet to try them, but once I do I'll let you know. :)

That's all for now!

And I'm back!

It's been 2 and a half months since my last post. I am just so swamped with school that I couldn't find time to dress up and write up new posts, especially because my board exams are coming yikes!

Well I needed a break and am heading to New York for the weekend. My classy friend loves tea, so we are heading to Lowell for afternoon tea and sandwiches. She begged me not to wear jeans and a tee, so I decided to swank it up a little.

This outfit is floral and still summery (I love the spring and summer months) and the best part is that not one of the pieces costs over $35 yay!

Here it is:

Top: Forever 21 Love 21 silk top

Bottom: H&M Floral pencil skirt

Shoes: Bamboo Pink Suede Pumps

Here I added a Kate Spade bag:

And with flats and a Zara blazer

Sorry for the blurry pictures! Ordered the new iPhone so hopefully they will be clearer! :)

Thanks for reading everyone! Missed you all!

Love, Kim

ZARA Semi-Annual Sale!

I am sure you know about Zara's semi-annual sale where items are marked down $9 - $40. I would say most items are between a 10% and 30% off and did not see any for 50%. The sale is currently ongoing online and in store with both locations having pretty much the same discounts. The return policy is great and is the same as regular priced items. The only downside is that things are going pretty fast and many items I liked were out in my sizes both online and in store. Regardless, I was able to nab some items I liked when I visited the 3rd St. Promenade branch in Santa Monica. Here's what I got (and didn't get).

Zara TRF Jeweled Neckline Lace Pencil Dress (here) $59.90

This dress looked great on the rack and I have been having a lace dress moment recently. This was part of the new arrivals section of TRF. The bodycon dresses in the TRF section usually run VERY small for me. I am normally an XS or below in the regular ZARA sizing, but had to size up to a medium in this dress to accomodate my hips. I guess it doesn'y look too bad in the picture but the fit was awful. It bunched up on the sides of my hips and was loose in the lower waist but tight on the top and bottom. Also the material is very thin and looked a little cheap to be honest. Loved the concept, if they made this in their regular ZARA line with thicker material and better tailoring, I would have jumped for it.

Zara TRF Dress with Lace Details (here in white) $39.99 from $59.90

Another bodycon dress with lace detailing on the top and extending down the sides (can't really be seen in this view). Again I sized up to a Medium, and it was a tad snug on the hips. I should have worn better underwear to avoid the panty lines haha! I liked the fit of this one better than the dress above. The fabric was thicker and less stretchy and it hugged my body better. It was a little tight on the hips and looser on the waist, but I liked the design and the dress was in my favorite color, Green! Purchased. I wish I were able to get the white version as well, but all the zippers were broken and there were tons of stains on the ones on the rack. Pet peeve, why do people try to force the zipper up, when it causes the ZIPPER TO TEAR FROM THE DRESS!!! No one can ever purchase that dress now! :(

Zara TRF Pleated Dress (here) $25.99 from $39.90

I saw this dress online on the midnight of the sale, but all the Smalls were already sold out! The material is a very light polyester chiffon and I love the geometric/triangular cut of the top with the pleated skirt. The low back top was also a plus! I tried on a Small in the store and the dress was a little loose in the waist area (note the tiny sag) but nothing that a cute belt or ribbon couldn't fix. I've been wearing a lot of lemons and yellows recently for the summer and nothing is changing! Purchased.

Zara Guipure Lace Dress (here) $39.99 from $59.90

I would not have thought of purchasing this dress from seeing it on the model online. The draping made the model look kind of shapless, straight up and down, probably because the dress was to big on her. But when I tried it on, I loved how the cut fit my body! It was cinched on the waist and skimmed, not smooshed, my hips. And teh back is quite sexy too with a low cut V. I loved the dress so much I got it in both colors! I feel that this dress is appropriate for dinners, shopping, general hangouts and even the beach! When I find a garment that fits well without alterations, I pounce and often get all the colors! Purchased!

Zara Dress with Transparent Sleeves (not sold online) $49.99 from $69.90

I really like the classy look of mesh/transluscent sleeves on a dress. It adds an air of mystery, by showing some skin, but just a taste. This dress had mesh shoulders and looked nice on the hanger, but it fit poorly on me. It was too large everywhere and just looked plain baggy. i liked the length though! This was a size XS. Skipped.

Zara Combined Panelled Skirt (here) $35.99 from $49.90

I was thinking that this skirt would look great with a slinky black top with 3/4 sleeves. This skirt was a size Small and was too big on me. They do have the XS online so I am thinking of getting that. It looks great on the model!

Outfit of the Day: Neon and Lace

For a lunch out with a friend, I wanted to match the sunny LA weather with an equally cheery outfit. Though sunny, it was a tad cold outside (68 degrees? I know I am spoiled by this weather) so I decided to go with a sweater. Since there was a lot of color and texture going on with my outfit I kept the shoes and bag neutral. Here is my outfit of the day:

Top: J Crew Factory V Neck Sweater

Bottom: H&M Lace Skirt

Scarf: H&M Neon Scarf

Shoes: Nine West Hula Sandal in Tortora (Beige)

Bag: Chanel Jumbo in Beige Claire

Where to buy VEGAS DRESSES!

When summertime rolls around, along with it comes Vegas season, especially for youngins on their summer vacation. I love visiting Vegas, a mere 45 minute flight for me and am going 3 times within the next 2 months (overload, I know). One of my biggest stresses is finding a couple of dresses to wear for nights out in Marquee or XS. After much searching, I decided to compile a list of websites and stores where you can find appropriate clubbing attire.

Just a note, my style is a bit more "reserved" than many of the clubgoers. I also appreciate the styling and intricasies of a dress and do not just go for a sexy look. I'm not condemning any type of style, it is just my preference to wear one over the other.

Case in point:

I would wear this:

But probably NOT this:

Let's begin shall we?

1. Rent the Runway (www.renttherunway.com):

Want a designer dress without the designer price? Try this website! They send you 2 sizes (for the perfect fit) and you can borrow the dress for multiple days. I know that you won't be able to keep it, but who are we kidding, you won't be caught dead wearing the same dress twice! I kid of course. This site has a plethora of dresses and gowns, but the prices can be steep, ESPECIALLY for a one-time rental. They have a great selection of Herve Leger dresses if that is your style, usually up for rent for $150. Personally, this would not be my first choice for procuring a dress. Although they have great cocktail dresses, the styles may be a tad conservative for Vegas. If I needed a gown for an event however, I would definitely give this place a go.

2. Cheaper retail stores like Forever 21, H&M, Zara and Express etc:

It's always good to keep more affordable options in mind, since some klutzy drunk fool might go around spilling his mojitos on your dress. I know that you might not find a sparkly stunner in these stores, so instead try to look for basics such as a thick knit peplum dress or a sequined skirt. Then use your fashion mojo to accessorize the heck out of your simple frock, that's half the fun after all right? Another plus, you can always find ways to recreate a look from a basic canvas so you can rewear your dress/skirt freely!

3. BCBG

BCBG is one of my favorite dress brands, mostly because tailoring is very important to designer Max Azria thus his dresses fit me and a lot of other people I know very well. Additionally, his stores are very commonplace in outlet locations so you can definitely get a droolworthy dress for under $150 (and get to keep it too unlike Rent the Runway). Don't be afraid to try some last season styles for the savings. The designs are eternal anyway.

4. eBay

You'll be surprised how many thousands of dresses are up for sale on eBay, one of them has got to be the perfect one for you! A few words of warning. Try not to buy from sellers in Asia (there is a tickbox to select sellers by area) since the quality is VERY poor. I know that the tiny model might look amazing in that beaded lace dress, but trust me, you will be very unsatisfied by what you receive. I have been burned many times in the past. The material is very cheap and SO VERY SEE THROUGH! The seams are unevern and unraveling, just no. Save yourself the grief and the money.

AND MY FAVORITE PLACE TO PURCHASE DRESSES...

5. Prom Sites (promgirl.com, TJ Formals etc):

...Say what?! Prom sites? I know you aren't looking for a grand ballgown, but TRUST me. Many prom sites sell cocktail dresses that are very sexy and very Vegas. That purple sequined dress in the very beginning? Yup, prom site. They also have amazing sales that cut off 50%-70% off dress prices to make room for next year's styles. Still don't believe me? Here are my favorites (and I have already purchased some of them in prep for my Vegas trips):

See what did I tell you. Quite appropriate for Vegas no? Also, there are literally thousands of dresses if these weren't your style, there are so many more to choose from! Be forewarned, the dresses can cost anywhere between $100-$600 so try to look for sales (Promgirl.com has an amazing sale section. Final sale though so be careful!)

Hope this post saves you some time and Happy Dress Shopping Ladies!

Love,

Kim

J Crew Factory Finds!

I went to the J Crew in Desert Hills, CA and of course had to hop through J. Crew! There was a small sale going with with tons of shorts and tank tops. Here's what I tried on:

J Crew Side Zip Shorts in Neon Pink:

I liked the fit of the shorts, but there was a huge stain on the side so skipped.

J Crew Side Zip Shorts in Black:

Though it is a tad short, I liked the fit. No pockets though, but still purchased. This and the pink pair above were on sale for around $15.

Lace Front Tank

A little too roomy on my. This was an XS and I don't think it came in XXS.

J Crew. Petal Tank

Loved the fit and the length of this tank! The embellishment in front gave me a much needed oomph in the bust area. A plus! On sale for $12.

J Crew Brushed Dot Short in Heather Twilight

Again, loved these shorts. I really like how the front is pleated for a looser and easier fit! Even though the inseam is 3", it seems longer due to the more relaxed fit. Purchased for $50

J Crew 5" Oxford Chino Short in Poppy.

I really like this 5" length and well color. Even though it looks pink the in the picture as it does in real life, if you look VERY closely, the fabric is made of alternating red and white threads. Planning on wearing this while in the golf range. Purchased for $36.

Thanks for reading! How's your shopping going?

H&M Sale!

I decided to stop by a mall while on the way back from San Diego. Not many of the stores stood out so I headed to H&M, always a safe bet. I was happy to discover that they were having a sale. A pair of shorts for $5? Yes please! I found a few nice things, most were not on sale, but still under $30. H&M is my go-to store along with Zara for trying new trends on the cheap!

Here's what I tried on and purchased:

Jersey Lace Skirt:

This stretchy skirt with silver trims was marked down to 7 bucks! I normally don't go for thin and stretchy skirts because they show underwear lines and other shapely irregularities. But with the right underwear, I could definitely see myself wearing this. Purchased!

H&M Lounge Trousers

After trying Zara's extremely flattering satin lounge pants, I am obsessed. I decided to give this pair a try. It was marked down to $12 if I remember correctly. The fit was terrible. The fabric bunched up in the abdominal area and gave me a little pooch. I also like my lounge trousers slim (not tight) and this pair was too loose for my liking. Passed.

H&M Neon Coral Skirt

So remember my love for J Crew's Neon Persimmon jean color? Well it hasn't waned a bit! I like the mini length of the skirt, which is short, but not overly so. I plan to pair this with an easy chambray skirt for the day and something sparkly for the night! Purchased.

H&M Flippy Lace Skirt

I know I already reviewed this piece in my last post, but I was excited to find this skirt in my size! The XS hugged my waist a lot better than the S and I had to snap it up! Purchased.

Massive H&M Fitting Room Review and New Arrivals

H&M is my go-to store for trying new trends that might come and go quickly. The quality may leave much to be desired but the designs are usually very modern and fashion forward. This is a review from the Century City H&M in LA and the massive one in SF.

Surprisingly I cannot get enough of H&M twill pants. They are similar to denim, but the fabric seems to be more tightly spun much like J. Crew's colored skinnies. The rise of the H&M pants is slightly higher than other brands, a feature that I love. They tend to run quite small though. I usually wear a size 6, but on occasion may fit into a size 4. Anyhoo, enough talking and let's get started:

Mint Green Shorts:

I am really into the mint color right now and the shade is really popular for the summer! These denim shorts were only available in a size 6 and were too loose on me. Also the bottom sort of flares out and I like a more thigh skimming fit. Did not purchase this one.

Blue Lace Stretch Skirt

This skirt was very pretty and quite flattering despite the thin stretchy material. However, it was too large and there were no smaller sizes. I think that this was a 6. Did not purchase.

Swiss Dot Dress

Man, oh man. I really wanted this dress to work out. I love the super cute swiss dot mesh overlay on the dress. The cut was great as it was a fit and flare dress. To my ultimate chagrin, this dress was the smallest one they had left in a size 4. I envy the lucky lady who was able to snag the smaller size. Did not purchase. :(

Pink Top + Black Pants

I'm not really sure how I should have tied the ribbons. They were initially just strands hanging on each side from the front and back so I just tied them together. It came out to a weird effect. Did not purchase the top, but loved the pants and did buy those.

Floral Skirt + Sleeveless Top

I was eyeing this skirt in the online catalog for a while now. I loved the fit and the design of the skirt. I am wearing a size 4 in this picture and as someone who is proportionally more hippy, this skirt fit quite well and wasn't too tight in the butt area. Purchased! (Finally!)

Lace Flippy Skirt

Again I wanted this skirt to work out so much. I love the A-line, skater shape of the skirt and the length was appropriate. Unfortunately, XS was not available so I am trying out small in the image. The skirt sat lower on the hips and meh, couldn't make it work.

I held back the extra fabric to see what it would look like and I was impressed. I prefer skirts that nip at the waist and flare at the hips. However, to pay $20+ for alterations for a $20 skirt is definitely not worth it. Skipped, sadly.

White Slacks

This is similar to the J. Crew Cafe Capri, but is a tad wider towards the bottom cuff. It was cute and part of the conscious collection, but I passed. This pair is a size 4. I find their slacks to run 1 size smaller than the jeans/pants.

Lilac Denim

This came in a variety of pretty pastel colors. I grabbed the size 6 but it was a tad ill-fitting around the crotch and knee area due to excessive bunching. Was too lazy to grab a smaller size so skipped on this one.

Pants in Navy

This is similar to the black pair pictured above (with the pink tank) in a size 6. I think I have every color in this style (2 in black). I purchased this one because you cannot have too many pairs of flattering dark pants!

Thanks for reading and I hope this was helpful! If you have any questions, please ask!

Love,

Kim
