Outfit of the Day: Pastel Sparkles

Hello everyone!

Long time no post! Sorry about that. I'm in my 3rd year of medical school and rotations in the hospital are intense. I work ~15 hours a day and get one dat off every 1 or 2 weeks!!!

But I found some time to squeeze in a post.

It was the BF's birthday recently and we went to this fantastic restaurant Sushi Zo. Pricey, but pretty worth it if you like sushi. There are about 30 servings of different sushi/sashimi/seafood, which come out piece by piece. They specify how you have to eat it. Kind of rigid, but the food was good! Although I wasn't full after 30 small pieces. :( For $160 per person, I'd expect to be stuffed!

Anywhoo here is my outfit of the night:

Outfit specs:

Dress: French Connection (on sale here)

Shoes: Christian Louboutin "Sex" Pigalle 120mm pumps

Bag: Chanel medium flap in gold

So...remember how I said I would never spend too much money on shoes, because they just touch the ground anyway and are difficult to maintain?

Erm, I would like to retract that statement. I have fallen head over heels (pun intended) over Christian Louboutins! More on that to come soon!

Outfit of the Day: Neon and Lace

For a lunch out with a friend, I wanted to match the sunny LA weather with an equally cheery outfit. Though sunny, it was a tad cold outside (68 degrees? I know I am spoiled by this weather) so I decided to go with a sweater. Since there was a lot of color and texture going on with my outfit I kept the shoes and bag neutral. Here is my outfit of the day:

Top: J Crew Factory V Neck Sweater

Bottom: H&M Lace Skirt

Scarf: H&M Neon Scarf

Shoes: Nine West Hula Sandal in Tortora (Beige)

Bag: Chanel Jumbo in Beige Claire

Outfit of the Day: Red, White and Blue

I wanted to test my new J Crew Schoolboy jacket so I tried to built an outfit around the blazer. Since it is such a vibrant cherry color, I decided to keep the rest of my outfit semi-neutral.

(Please excuse the sorry state of my dorm room. It's final exam time, hence the mess)

Blazer: J Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Wool Flannel (here)

Top: J Crew Ribbon Cami

Plain White Tank Top

Pants: Charlotte Russe

Flats: Tory Burch Reva

Purse: Chanel Jumbo

Outfit of the Day and Forever 21 Skirts

Again, major apologies about the long pauses in entries. My finals are coming up so I severely need to spend every waking moment reviewing. But last week, I was able to take a little break and after a HUGE lunch (Mongolian Hot Pot, which is amazing!) I needed to walk it off. The nearest store was a Forever 21 so I decided to see what was new for the Spring.

The clothes were generally very Spring-y, focused on pastels, lace, brights and colorblocking, which are always popular in the warmer weather. I saw a few skirts I liked and have some fitting room reviews for you.

Before all that, here was my outfit for that day. I know it isn't obvious in the photo, thanks to the tucked in shirt, but that red skirt was TIGHT. You know how when you wake up you seem super skinny, then after a large meal your tummy sort of puffs out. Well, note to self, only wear that skirt on an empty stomach.

Chanel Baby Cabas

Top: Ann Taylor Whisper Blouse. Love this blouse. Feels like silk, washes like polyester!

Bottom: H&M Red Pleated Skirt in 1 size too small

Shoes: Zara Wedges

Bag: Chanel Baby Cabas

One style I really, really love is the mix of pink and navy. The combination is whimsical and classic. When I saw this peach and navy skirt, I just had to try it on! Even though it had the extra beige panel on it.

Forever 21 Colorblocked Mini Skirt (available here)

Loved the colors but the small was a tad too big on me. I grabbed the XS and bought it without trying it on. Bad idea, the XS seems 2 inches shorter! Not appropriate at all for class. :( Plan to return or exchange. Maybe I can wear the S size lower on my waist?

Forever 21 Essential Belted Skirt (available here)

Forever 21 Essential Belted Skirt

Loved the length of this one and I like pairing white with pastels and brights during the spring. The material was kind of sheer however, (notice how white the pockets look compared to the rest of the material) so even at a steal price of $13, I passed.

I did end up with a couple of sheer lace tees to wear with dark denim and a fedora for my upcoming Hawaii trip.

Shopping is always a great stress reliever!

Mail's Here!

Hello readers! I apologize for the scant number of entries this week. I have med finals coming up and have been trying to devote every second of time that I have to studying! But everyone needs a break sometime so I'd like to share with you my recent purchase.

Recently (February 1st) some crazy person at Chanel decided it was a great idea to raise prices of their classic purses by around 15%. For example, the Jumbo size jumped from $4,300 to $4,900 before tax. That is WAY too much for a bag. Rumor has it that they want to peg the price at $7,000 or more for each flap within the next couple of years. Some silly thing of competing with Hermes or whatever. I love Chanel flaps, but do not have the financial backing to love them tangibly. Maybe after I start working?

For more information on Chanel purses, check out this entry: here

Anyway, I also liked the older design of the Jumbo flaps with only a single flap instead of with the added inner one it has now. I don't see any benefit to adding the extra piece. It simply makes the bag heavier and more cumbersome to use. I wanted an everyday bag so i thought caviar would be for me.

Since I wasn't about to shell out nearly five grand for a purse, I decided to go preowned, through eBay. Though many sellers are honest, there are some on eBay that are filthy scammers, even if they sound nice and innocent through email. If you do not have much knowledge about the bag, please do some research on what the bag should look like EXACTLY and enlist help from the ladies (and gents!) of Purseforum. They will be happy to authenticate for you. You can also send me the link/pics if you'd like and I could do my best to decipher and ask the ladies of Purseforum for you.

So much talking and so few pictures. Well here they are!

I got the Chanel Jumbo in Black Caviar with Silver Hardware. I really wanted an everyday bacg that could withstand some use. Caviar is wonderful at retaining its texture and resisting scratches. Silver hardware gives it a more casual vibe compared to gold. The bag is preowned, so there are some light scratches on the CC clasp, which is inevitable. Also there is a small bump just behind the top of the flap, which is a little annoying, but not noticable from the front. I knew I wasn't going to get a pristine bag since I bought it preowned so I am still very happy with it!

Thanks for reading and letting me share. What are your favorite everyday bags?

Outfit of the Day (or Night): High and Low

I had a little all-school party yesterday and the attire was listed as semi-formal. As much as I love cocktail dresses, I wanted to do something a little different. My thoughts gravitated to a maxi skirt with a simple blouse or silk top. I found a gorgeous maxi skirt with a slit on eBay, but USPS lost it. :( So in a last minute shopping trip, I was able to find a skirt at Zara.

Top: J Crew Bonnie Blouse. Available here

Skirt: Zara Skirt. New Arrival available in stores

Shoes: Badgley Mischka Decadence Sandals. Available here

Bag: Chanel M/L Flap

I love the skirt! I was a little of a fashion renegade wearing sleeves and a longer hemline skirt, but I liked the "more conservative look" while also showing a little skin. The skirt had a elasticized waist that was a tad large so I took it in with safety pins and tied a black sash on top for a cinched waist look.

What do you think of the look?

Thanks for reading!

Caviar: This leather has pebbled bumps and while it is more rigid than lambskin, it is also much more durable

Chanel Caviar Leather

I'd also life to clarify some semantics. The Chanel 2.55 flap is not the flap with the double CC clasp. It has a rectangular madamoiselle clasp and a chain strap with no intertwined leather. It is called the 2.55 because Coco Chanel was said to have released the bag in February, 1955. The style has been rereleased and is now termed "Reissue".

The Chanel 2.55 Reissue: Notice the full chains without the intertwined leather and the madamoiselle clasp. The leather of this purse is called "Distressed Calfskin" and gives the bag a vintagey feel.

Chanel 2.55 Reissue

This is the modern Chanel flap, which may be more familiar to you. The double CC clasp was designed by the current artistic head of Chanel, Karl Lagerfield.
